about plaguewatch

PLAGUEWATCH follows the suspected pneumonic plague case in Irkutsk, Siberia (October 2026) and how the world is reacting to it, plus other outbreaks worldwide. It is an independent news tracker. It is not a health authority and not medical advice.

What makes it different

Local news from Siberia breaks first on Russian Telegram channels, long before it reaches Western media. PLAGUEWATCH reads those channels, plus news from Russia, China, Kazakhstan and Mongolia in their own languages, translates everything into English and puts it next to the WHO, the UN and the world's newsrooms, with live betting-market odds on what happens next. Switch to "world outbreaks" to follow every other outbreak the WHO and outbreak specialists are reporting.

Turn on alerts (top bar) to get a beep and a browser notification when a major update or an official statement comes in.

How it works

A news robot scans 25+ sources every few minutes: official channels (WHO, UN, Russia's health agency, the Irkutsk regional government), international and Russian media, and public Russian Telegram channels where local news often breaks first. It keeps only items about this outbreak, translates Russian posts into English, tags each one with the countries and the place it is about, groups the same story from different outlets together, and labels how serious it looks. Every item links to the original.

The figures, country statuses, timeline and "confirmed vs claimed" list are checked by hand against named sources. Labels: confirmed official reported unconfirmed disputed denied.

Machine translation and automatic tagging can be wrong. When something matters, open the original source.
